- Ford Sayre Nordic 2&3 Day Programs 2015-16: Getting Started! September 21, 2015Hello Ford Sayre Families! We hope you are enjoying the coming of fall and managing to get outside to play in the woods. We’re starting to get organized for the xc ski season (woohoo!). Please note some new logistics and upcoming dates/events and feel free to share this information with families that may be joining us for the first time this year. Registration will open in the first week of October. We look forward to seeing everyone soon. As always, contact us with questions. Ashley and Peter bkl@fordsayre.org CHANGE IN EMAIL SYSTEM: We are switching to a system where families will receive our regular program posts ONLY if they subscribe on our website page. This is what you should do:
- If your child will be in the same program this year as s/he was last year, do nothing.
- If your child will change programs this year (ie: doing the 3-Day program instead of the 2-Day) you must subscribe to the new program. Go here and click the appropriate program, or look at the top left of our BKL 2&3 Day page and click “subscribe” and choose the appropriate program. Then go to the bottom of this email and “unsubscribe” so you are no longer part of the list for the program your child participated in last year.
- If your child no longer plans to be part of BKL 2 or 3 Day Programs, you can unsubscribe by going to the bottom of this email and clicking “unsubscribe”.
- If you have a friend who will be joining the 2&3 Day Programs this year, tell them to go here or look at the top left of our BKL 2&3 Day page and click “subscribe.”
- Monday 10/5: Omer and Bob’s Team Night 6:30-8:30 (Team discounts for ski gear and garb)
- Saturday, 10/17: Dartmouth Ski Swap & Sale 10:00 – 4:00 Dartmouth Collis Common Ground
- Sunday 10/18: Coaching Clinic at Dublin School – If you are coaching this year and would like to join the gang for this clinic, don’t forget to sign up on the google doc!
- Beginning of November: NENSA ski lease program opens – great source for beginner combi equipment.
- Sunday 11/8: the Ford Sayre Ski Sale at the Richmond Middle School, 12:00 – 2:30 – great source for used gear
- Thursday 11/12: First Day of Practice (dry land)
- Tuesday 3/8: Last Day ski practice for 2-day skiers
- Fun Summer Activity: The Hanover Trails Challenge July 17, 2015
One of the characteristics that often unites Nordic skiers is their love for the outdoors!
If you’re looking for a fun and low-key way to keep your kids active outside this summer, consider signing up for the “Hanover Trails Challenge“. The Trails Challenge highlights many of the great public trails in Hanover. (My kids are LOVING it! They’ve spotted wild turkeys, explored dry riverbeds, and found beautiful flowers and feathers. They can’t wait to check out their next trail.)
The Trails Challenge is a collaborative venture sponsored by Hanover Parks & Recreation, The Hanover Conservancy, Hanover Improvement Society, Town of Hanover Conservation Commission, and several local businesses. (Note: While the website suggests that you have to sign up in June, you can still register online or by going to the Richard W. Black Rec. Center.)
In addition to the Trails Challenge, there are also a variety of other summer running activities posted on the Ford Sayre website.
Finally, with ski season only 4 1/2 months away, we are starting to plan for the upcoming season! We are excited for the opportunities ahead – and would love to have more people join our existing group of volunteers. If you are interested, please let me know.
Enjoy the summer – and be on the lookout for more communication in September!

- Annual Mont-Ste-Anne Trip Info for December 2015 July 8, 2015Families have been asking about the details of our FS Mont-Ste-Anne trip and so Emily Silver has put together the information to share with everyone. Thanks to Emily for her continuing work on this trip. We can’t wait for it! Information is below….Ski w/ Ford Sayre families at Mont-Ste-Anne near Quebec City Dec 27th-31st: a tradition in its 3rd year!THE SKIING EXPERIENCE:This will be our third winter continuing the Mont-Ste-Anne tradition, and we have seen that it gives the kids a nice early-season foundation and families a whole lot of fun! While it’s true that if we have good snow in the upper Valley in Dec, we can ski at home, you tend not to ski all day long for 4.5 days in a row when you’re home, and certainly not with so many friends! At Mont-Ste-Anne, each day we will have gathering times for folks who want to ski in Ford Sayre groups, led in an informal manner by parents/coaches. This is completely optional, but as many of us parents have noticed, kids seem to ski w/ fewer complaints when they ski in groups! There are 5 warming huts on the trail system so it is extra fun to ski in packs and take snack breaks together. It can be cold, but the extensive trail system cannot be beat!Quebec City is only 30 minutes away.
Château Mont-Sainte-Anne
RESERVE by Sept 26th!
WHEN: 4 nights: checking in Dec 27, 2015; departing Dec 31RATE: $189 Canadian + taxes per room per night for 2 adults; no additional charge for children 17 and younger (taxes = federal & provincial sales tax 5% & 9.975% and tourist area tax of $3/night)FORD SAYRE ROOM BLOCK: Ask for “Ford Sayre Ski Team” rate; rate is discounted and same as last year. We have reserved 20 rooms.ROOM TYPE: Chateau Studio = 2 queen beds; small table for 4; kitchenette w/ stove, microwave, fridge, toaster. You can ask about upgrade costs if you would like a different type of room.HIGHLIGHT: big outdoor hot tub après ski!PHONE & LINK: 1.866.900.5211MONT-STE-ANNE SKI AREA & proximity to our hotel:There is no lodging right at the XC trails except for one big lodge that many people would need to co-rent. Chateau Mte-Ste-Anne is at the alpine mountain, and you can ski to the XC lodge from there, but it’s 7K, so what most families do is drive to the XC lodge in the morning w/ lunches packed, and then individual family members ski back to the hotel at the end of the day if they so desire.QUESTIONS?Feel free to email me! emily.silver@thet.net - Thetford Fun Runs Begin This Coming Tuesday, June 16 June 12, 2015
Fun Runs at Thetford Academy begin next Tuesday, June 16th, at 6:00 p.m.
All ages and abilities are welcome. Participants may walk or run the 5K
course. Choosing to do only 1/2 of the course (the lower loop) is also an
option. Runners and spectators should gather near the boys’ (lower) soccer
field next to the gym. Runs are hosted by the Thetford Academy
cross-country coaches and continue every Tuesday throughout the summer.
Any questions can be directed tojoseph.deffner@thet.netHope to see lots of FS families there!

Let’s help our junior jumpers! There is evidence that excellent junior jumping equipment is critical in developing competent competitive ski jumpers. With increased interest in junior jumping at Storrs Hill, it is important that more skis, boots and bindings are available for these enthusiastic up and coming jumpers.
This is the particular time of year to be ordering equipment. Adding to Jeff Hasting’s Finland order will be very helpful. The Lebanon Outing Club is supporting the purchase of 10 pairs of junior jumping skis up to 210 cm and size 7 boots.———————————————————— —————————— —————- Please help by choosing one of these options:Skis, boots and binding package: $300_____$200______$100______ other _____Thank you for investing in the future of a junior jumper. Please send check to: Lebanon Outing Club PO Box 295 Lebanon, NH 03766Lebanon Outing Club Junior Jumping CommitteeJon Farnham Betty Ann Heistad (bheistad @Yahoo.com) Erling Heistad, Kim Farnham
