- Race Organization for Mt Top Paintball Biathlon 2-1-15 January 29, 2015To All Who Choose to Participate in the Wonderful Event that is the Paintball Biathlon: We are psyched and hope you are, too! Please help us prepare for our coaching duties by adding your child’s name to the google doc here. Our race organization documents let skiers and parents know ahead of time when their grade level group will be meeting to preview the course and, in this case, practice shooting! We are also hoping skiers will remember that it is important to take a slow ski after they race. If possible on Sunday, coaches will use the cool down with kids to preview the course kids will race if they ski in the BKL Festival (taking place at Mt Top) at the end of the season. Should be fun! Please make sure your child’s skis are fully prepared according to Jay’s instructions BEFORE you arrive at the race (check them again on the race org. doc. the evening before the race). We will not have waxing equipment on site. Looking forward to it! Ashley and Peter Continue reading →
- Practice plan for Thursday, 1-29-15: 1-day a week program January 28, 2015
Hello 1-day a week BKL families,
This is a reminder that we will be holding an OPTIONAL practice on Thursday, January 29th. Our goal is to have fun, work on hills and gliding, and enjoy skiing “in the tracks” for the first time this season!!
Location: Garipay Field Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: Classic Notes:
- ALL GRADE LEVELS ARE INVITED TO BRING POLES! This includes the kindergarten through second grade students who have not yet practiced with poles. If your K-2 grade child does not have poles, we will likely do some sharing so that everyone has a chance to try out poles. So, please make sure all equipment is labeled.
- FORD SAYRE CAR MAGNETS are available. I will have them in the clear bins near the K/1 check-in area. Please come get one!
- SIGN-IN/SIGN-OUT: Please remember to sign-in AND sign-out your child!!
- PARKING AREA: We are excited to be sharing Garipay with the 2- and 3-day a week BKL skiers tomorrow. This will make the parking lot busier than normal, but it will not change our normal check-in locations.
- FORD SAYRE GEAR: If you ordered gear from Ford Sayre, Bob Burnham will be on hand tomorrow to distribute it. If you do not connect with him, I will plan to hold on to unclaimed gear until we can get it to you.
- REQUEST FROM SILVER FOX TROT ORGANIZERS: Ford Sayre’s premier event, the Silver Fox Trot will be here soon (Saturday, February 14). We are looking to borrow a generator, as well as several folding tables. If anyone has a generator and/or a table to loan for the day, please contact Cindy.glueck@gmail.com. Also, if your child has any interest in racing, add this date to your calendar and plan to spectate or participate! It will provide a fun (and local) introduction to BKL racing.

Go here or here for information and here to register. We will post our race organization doc on Thursday. (See note on conditions at Mt Top below) Notes:
- We forgot to mention that many of our racers were awarded ribbons at the Duathlon. Emily Silver was kind enough to pick them up for those who were not there at the end of the day. Please tell your skier to find Emily at practice in the 5/6 area to get his/her ribbon from the race.
- “Our ski club’s premier event, the Silver Fox Trot will be here soon. I’m helping to organize the facilities for our two Hanover race venues, and am looking for one more generator, as well as several more folding tables. If anyone has a generator and/or a generator a table to loan for the day, please contact me at Cindy.glueck@gmail.com Thanks, Cindy”
- We just received a note from the Director at Mt Top where the race will be this Sunday. She says first that online registration closes Friday night but there is day-of-event registration as well. She also says: “We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Mt Top on Sunday… EVERYTHING is groomed, thanks to Roger and the new PistonBully!… come ski the outer trails… great climbing (you know you have a heart ; )), awesome downhills and great rolling terrain in the national forest, 40 km groomed and ready for your arrival!”
- Optional Practice – Thursday, January 29th: 1-day a week program January 27, 2015
Hello 1-day a week BKL families,
To make up for lost time, we are pleased to announce that many of our coaches have volunteered to come out on Thursday, January 29th for an optional fun practice. If you can get your children and their skis to Garipay, we should have lots of light, reasonable temperatures, and plenty of snow to ski on!
Parents are always welcome to join us. Our coaches would love your help!

- Practice is CANCELED for Tuesday, 1-27-15: 1-day a week program January 26, 2015
Hello BKL 1-day a week families,
The Hanover School System has cancelled school tomorrow, so our practice will be cancelled. You can go here for Hanover School System cancellations. This is a Ford Sayre policy. Of course, you are welcome to frolic on your skis on your own in the new snow – we just can’t officially provide the coaching.
Because the 1-day program has had to cancel many practices this season (due to school closings, temperature, and excessive ice), we are exploring the possibility of having an optional practice later this week. More details to come as soon as I know if enough of our coaches are available…
Notes:
- Come support the Hanover High School jumping team this Wednesday, at 6:00pm (in the dark!) at the NH High School Ski Jumping competition. It takes place at Oak Hill. If you are curious about the sport or just want a thrill, go check it out. For more details, go to our Community events page.
- There will also be a Ford Sayre jumping meet at Oak Hill this Saturday at 10:00. Come watch some of our FS skiers fly through the air on enormous skis!
- The Ford-Sayre-favorite Mountain Top Paintball Biathlon takes place this Sunday, February 1! There will likely be quite a few 2- and 3-day a week BKL children attending – and it may be a fun race for some of our 1-day a week BKL children to try out! Go here or here for information and here to register.
- We have had notice of many exciting upcoming events. Too many to list here. Please go to the Community Events page to see more details (to be posted soon) – note the Tiki Torch Trek in Hartland on Feb 7. It is fun, family friendly, mellow event!
Have fun in the snow!
