Jumping News

Ten New Hampshire schools brought their ski jumping teams to Oak Hill to compete on the evening of January 28.  A glowing path of ice candles guided the spectators towards the jumps, where a good crowd gathered to cheer on the competitors.  Hanover High School won the competition with 388 points, and 4 jumpers in the top 10.  The event was well organized, and a lot of fun to watch! Ford Sayre Masters Club had a great showing at the Masters Cross Country National championships at Craftsbury, Vermont on January 29.  Congratulations to Chris Nice, Jonathan Chafee and Rick Powell for winning their age groups in the 10K Freestyle.  Notable mentions are Bryce Wing for a very fast time in a competitive age group category.   Bravo to all the Upper Valley skiers who participated.  Full results

Hello 1-day a week BKL families,

Today’s snow should make for wonderful classic skiing on Tuesday!

Notes:

1. ALL GRADE LEVELS ARE INVITED TO BRING POLES!  Many of the younger skiers will only use poles for PART of the practice, so please make sure all equipment is labeled. I have extra colored tape and markers in the bucket at the K/1 table.
2. MISSING: We are missing two pairs of poles – can you please check to see if you may have gone home with the wrong pair. (1) Red/Black/White Alpina poles for someone about 5’4″. (2) Black poles for a child about 4′ tall (one of the wrist straps is broken). If you may have taken home the wrong pair, please let me know.
3. FORD SAYRE CAR MAGNETS are available. I will have them in the clear bins near the K/1 check-in area. Please come get one!
4. SIGN-IN/SIGN-OUT: Please remember to sign-in AND sign-out your child!!

Upcoming Race:	There is no Ford Sayre supported race this coming weekend, but you can always find a fun event on the NENSA calendar and attend on your own or with friends! Go here for the NENSA calendar. Frost Mountain’s event should be fantastic!

Notes:

1. What a fabulous time we all had at the Mt Top Paintball Biathlon on Sunday! The skies were blue, the temps weren’t too low, and the wind left us in peace. It was beautiful. 43 skier-sharpshooters participated and smiles abounded. Congratulations to all of the skiers for whom this was a first time experience. We also appreciate the sportsmanship that participating in this type of race requires. Kids can’t control the paintball equipment and there are always glitches – it makes for an interesting and unpredictable race and teaches us to be flexible. Thanks to those kids who figured out how to smile and focus on the fun they had rather than on the technical difficulties! That’s what it is all about! If you have pictures you’d like to share, you can email them to me at bkl.@fordsayre.org and I will put them up on the site.
2. Another fun note from the nordic racing world…The IPC Nordic Skiing World Championships took place this past week in Wisconsin and our 5/6 coach and former Paralympic skier Rob Walsh sent along this report from the field: “Just a short report from here in Cable  Wisconsin, home of the Birkebeiner and  now the IPC Nordic World Championships. For anyone who is interested, there is information available on www.usparalympics.com. Commentary was provided by  Thetford resident Peter Graves.” Thanks Rob!  Can you believe the range of experience in our coaching staff?
