Jumping News

1. We forgot to mention that many of our racers were awarded ribbons at the Duathlon. Emily Silver was kind enough to pick them up for those who were not there at the end of the day. Please tell your skier to find Emily at practice in the 5/6 area to get his/her ribbon from the race.
2. “Our ski club’s premier event, the Silver Fox Trot will be here soon.  I’m helping to organize the facilities for our two Hanover race venues, and am looking for one more generator, as well as several more folding tables.  If anyone has a generator and/or a generator a table to loan for the day, please contact me at Cindy.glueck@gmail.com  Thanks, Cindy”
3. We just received a note from the Director at Mt Top where the race will be this Sunday. She says first that online registration closes Friday night but there is day-of-event registration as well. She also says: “We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Mt Top on Sunday… EVERYTHING is groomed, thanks to Roger and the new PistonBully!… come ski the outer trails… great climbing (you know you have a heart ; )), awesome downhills and great rolling terrain in the national forest, 40 km groomed and ready for your arrival!”

Hello BKL 1-day a week families,

The Hanover School System has cancelled school tomorrow, so our practice will be cancelled.  You can go here for Hanover School System cancellations.  This is a Ford Sayre policy.  Of course, you are welcome to frolic on your skis on your own in the new snow – we just can’t officially provide the coaching.

Because the 1-day program has had to cancel many practices this season (due to school closings, temperature, and excessive ice), we are exploring the possibility of having an optional practice later this week. More details to come as soon as I know if enough of our coaches are available…

Notes:

1. Come support the Hanover High School jumping team this Wednesday, at 6:00pm (in the dark!) at the NH High School Ski Jumping competition. It takes place at Oak Hill. If you are curious about the sport or just want a thrill, go check it out. For more details, go to our Community events page.
2. There will also be a Ford Sayre jumping meet at Oak Hill this Saturday at 10:00. Come watch some of our FS skiers fly through the air on enormous skis!
3. The Ford-Sayre-favorite Mountain Top Paintball Biathlon takes place this Sunday, February 1! There will likely be quite a few 2- and 3-day a week BKL children attending – and it may be a fun race for some of our 1-day a week BKL children to try out! 4. We have had notice of many exciting upcoming events. Too many to list here. Please go to the Community Events page to see more details (to be posted soon) – note the Tiki Torch Trek in Hartland on Feb 7. It is fun, family friendly, mellow event!

2. What an AMAZING day we all had at Craftsbury for the Mansfield Duathlon! Over 30 of our skiers raced as well as many BKL alumni, coaches and parents. Despite the cold, there were lots of smiles, and families enjoyed the fantastic trails on their own before and after the races. Many thanks to our coaches, some of whom don’t have children in the program and some who attend races even when their children don’t race. We also send applause to the impressive waxing crew that is comprised of parents and coaches. It is the commitment of these volunteers that makes our program wonderful. Go team!

This exciting competition starts at 6pm this coming Wednesday night, and only lasts about an hour.

Come join us for hot chocolate, campfire, marshmallows, athletic courage and quite likely a few good wipe outs.

Anyone coming please bring any noisemakers you have (bells, horns, etc.) to cheer the Hanover High School team competing in this state-wide event!

It’ll be a popular event with a crowd. Therefore, it’s best to park close by in the parking lot of the Ray School on Reservoir Road.

Watch top Male and Female High School competitors from around the state soar over 100 feet under the lights.

DIRECTIONS

• From downtown Hanover take Lyme Road (Rt 10 North to the first rotary just before the COOP Foodstore).
• Take the first right off the rotary onto Reservoir Road.
• Reservoir road comes to a “T” after roughly 0.7 miles.
• Take a left down to the Storrs Pond/Oak Hill ski complex.
• Park there. The jumps are up the hill to the left (hidden by a few trees). From the parking lot you’ll see the lights from the ski jumping complex shining through the trees.
