- BKL Summer Camp, Frost Mountain, Aug 15-17, 2016 August 4, 2016I recently learned of another summer opportunity for BKL skiers for rising 5th-9th graders and am sharing the information below. Enjoy the rest of summer. -Jane
I wanted to reach out and introduce myself for those of you who I haven’t met–my name is Britta Clark, and I am a 2016 Bates grad/skier in charge of the FMN BKL (5th-9th grade) camp this year! I’m so excited to be coaching alongside some fellow skiers/outdoorspeople at FMN camp from August 15th-17th. Not only do I get the opportunity stay engaged with the next generation of Frosties and New England Skiers, but I get to do so at Blueberry Hill Inn, the place where I grew up! We would love to have as many snow-loving kids as possible at camp this year, and still have quite a few slots open! Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this year’s camp. We’d love your help spreading the word as well–feel free to forward to any interested parties. All the links for registration and information can be found at http://www.frostmountainnordic.org/

Reserve rooms by September 26th.THE SKIING EXPERIENCE:This will be our 4th winter continuing the Mont-Ste-Anne tradition. What started out with just a few families has grown to 19 families, and we have seen that it gives the kidsa nice early-season foundation—and families a whole lot of fun!!Each day we will have gathering times for folks who want to ski in Ford Sayre groups, led by parents/coaches. This is completely optional, but as many of us parents have noticed, kids seem to ski w/ fewer complaints when in kid groups! There are 5 warming huts on the trail system so it is extra fun to ski in packs and take snack breaks together. It can be cold, but the extensive trail system cannot be beat, and Quebec City is only 30 minutes away!
Château Mont-Sainte-Anne
RESERVE by Sept 26th! (Reserving after will work, too, if rooms are available, but the hotel needs a chunk of money from us by 9/26 to hold the block.)
WHEN: 4 nights: arriving Dec 26; departing Dec 30RATE: $219 Canadian + taxes per room per night for 2 adults; no additional charge for children 17 and younger (taxes = federal & provincial sales tax 5% & 9.975% and tourist area tax of $3/night)FORD SAYRE ROOM BLOCK: Ask for “Ford Sayre Ski Team” rate; rate is discounted. We have reserved 20 rooms.ROOM TYPE: “Château Studio” = 2 queen beds; small table for 4; kitchenette w/ stove, microwave, fridge, toaster. You can ask about upgrade costs if you would like a different type of room.OUTDOOR HOT TUB: This is an après ski highlight!PHONE & LINK: 1.855.342.3376MONT-STE-ANNE SKI AREA & proximity to our hotel:There is no lodging right at the XC trails except for one big lodge that many people would need to co-rent. Chåteau Mte-Ste-Anne is at the alpine mountain, and you can ski to the XC lodge from there, but it’s 7K, so what most families do is drive to the XC lodge in the morning w/ lunches packed, and then individual family members ski back to the hotel at the end of the day if they so desire.FOOD: Here is what most families do, making use of the grocery stores that are only a few minutes away from the hotel.Breakfast in hotel rooms. (Many enjoy the bakery in the hotel lobby.)Lunch in ski lodge: families pack lunches and eat among friends. Food is also sold at the lodge.Dinner plans vary: families go out to restaurants; they cook in hotel rooms; and they bring food down to the conference room we have reserved in order to eat among other families. (We have reserved that conference room again this year for each night.)QUESTIONS?Feel free to email me! emily.silver@thet.net - National Nordic Foundation Wine Tasting Fundraiser July 6th July 3, 2016I am sharing the following message from Scottie Eliassen (Head Coach of the Ford Sayre’s Junior Nordic Team program) as this event may also be of interest to parents & coaches of the BKL community. This Wednesday evening, July 6th, we have the opportunity to support the National Nordic Foundation through a Dan & Whit’s / Norwich Inn wine tasting event!
