- 2016 BKL Festival Information March 3, 2016
All,
Please take the time to read this email.
We are at a total of 54 CVET skiers heading to the Festival: 47 Ford Sayre, 2 Mt Top, 5 Woodstock. It should be great. 3 FS kids are lollipoppers and 4 are grades 1/2, which means our kids don’t know them well. Please chat with your skiers about being really welcoming and supportive of the little guys as well as the Woodstock/Mt Top folks.
CONTACT SHEET:
For emails, phone numbers, and who-is-staying-where (and to remember what you agreed to bring for food) go here.
RACE ORGANIZATION DOC:
Go here to see course preview timing, coaches, race timing, glide waxing info, etc for the race days. Please make sure to volunteer to help with some aspect of the day.
SKIS:
Both pairs of skis should be marked with tape: name of skier, grade level group ie: Carly Milliken, 7/8. If you have an extra pair of skis (rock skis/waxless skis/etc), please bring them in case your child’s skis are being waxed during the course preview.
The Festival has a low fluoro policy this year! That means all waxes must be LF or CH. No HF products of any kind are to be used for the festival. Hurrah for this!
Classic Skis: 1st-4th graders: please prepare with LF or CH7 glide wax on tips and tails. Coaches will apply kick wax on race day. 5th-8th graders: LF or CH8
Skate Skis: 1st-4th graders: Please prepare with LF or CH7 glide wax at home. 5th-8th graders: LF or CH8. If necessary, coaches will touch them up on race day.
BIBS & GOODY BAGS:
We will have a “waxing” room at the Royalty Inn in Gorham. When Tracy Walsh brings our bags back from her meeting, we will lay them out in the waxing room. They should be there by 8pm and we will close that room up by 9:00/9:30. If you don’t get your bag that night, we will have it at the venue on Saturday morning.
DINNER FRIDAY NIGHT:
Matt Rightmire is organizing a group meal in Gorham, NH, on Friday evening starting at 6:30PM for those that will be in town then. If you are interested in joining the fun, please reach out to Matt (mgrightmire@yahoo.com) and let him know how many you are. Venue? We’re aiming for Mountain Fire Pizza.
BREAKFAST:
Only 10 folks signed up for breakfast so the folks at Welch’s said just come on over if you want to. If you go before 7, it is a regular menu. After 7 is a buffet and will be crowed with other groups. There are some other spots in Gorham that look like they have good options as well. On your own, basically.
THEME:
The theme for this year is “White Mountain Magic” (think wizards and witches and Harry Potter). We did some work with the kids at practice today, but parents and kids are welcome to improvise on their own!
Should be excellent!
Ashley and Peter

INFORMATION FOR THE 2&3 DAY PROGRAM:
Location: Dorcas’ Classroom at Richmond Middle School Time: 3:30-4:30 Technique: Indoor practice focused on preparing for the festival: some World Cup race viewing, strategy discussion and work on festival costumes! Wax Recommendation: NA Upcoming Event/Race: BKL Festival at Great Glen! Woohoo! They got 7″ of snow last night and today! NOTES:
We have lots of glittery fabric and ribbons ready for festival-goers to create simple Ford Sayre-colored costumes for the “White Mountain Magic” festival theme. We apologize that this won’t serve every 2-day skier, but with this weather, the other option is to cancel practice. SO, if you are going to the festival, join us for costume making in Dorcas’ classroom at RMS.
NO FRIDAY PRACTICE THIS WEEK!
Skiers and coaches will be heading to the Festival, so we will not practice.
LAST PRACTICE IS NEXT TUESDAY:
March 8th is our last scheduled day of practice. Regardless of conditions, we will find a way to fete the graduating 8th graders as they depart our program. Parents are welcome and encouraged to join us for this tradition for the last 25 minutes of practice.
As promised, we will have SNACKS at the end of our last practice. We’ll provide the cocoa, lemonade and treats. Come celebrate what a wild, wacky & fun season it’s been!
Thanks,
Jane & TracyWORLD CUP IN CANADA!

Some of our JNT skiers and a few BKL kids are up in Montreal today watching the races. Go USA!
And thanks to Angela for sharing this year’s music video by the US Nordic team. Your kids will LOVE this.
GOOD LUCK TO OUR BKL FESTIVAL SKIERS!
Our best wishes to the 47 Ford Sayre skiers from the One and Two-Day programs heading to the BKL Festival this weekend. If you didn’t get a chance to register, but still want to attend the Festival, there is a late registration option available here (until Thursday noon). If you DO register your child late, please let us or your child’s coach know to expect him/her. More coming tomorrow in a festival email.
Cheers!

Dear 1-day a week parents,
What fun it was to spend the day with your children yesterday! The youngest children searched for the elusive SNOWFLAKE (letter stamps scattered throughout the fields and woods); and our older children were engaged in games of Capture the Flag and Soccer! As the season is nearing the end, I wanted to send a few notes and reminders.
BANQUET INFORMATION:
We will celebrate this wild and wacky season, our skiers, families, coaches, and other volunteers with our 2nd Annual Ford Sayre Nordic Banquet on Friday, March 11, from 6-7:30pm at the Black Recreation Center in Hanover. The Banquet is potluck style, with pizza ordered by Ford Sayre. We have put together a google doc for you to RSVP and sign up to bring food or help with various jobs (if you are able). NOTE that there are two tabs on the google doc!
We really hope that you’ll join us for this event! It is a wonderful way to connect with other families, and to celebrate the incredibly positive attitudes that your children brought to our brief skiing period… and numerous grassy and woodland adventures. It has truly been a pleasure to work with your children!
REMINDER: LAST DAY OF PRACTICE IS NEXT WEEK
Next Tuesday, March 8th is our last scheduled day of practice.
GOOD LUCK TO OUR BKL FESTIVAL SKIERS!
Our best wishes to those children heading to the BKL Festival this weekend. Over 40 children from Ford Sayre (including a handful from the 1-day program) will be heading to the Great Glen Ski Trails this weekend! If you didn’t get a chance to register, but still wanted to attend the Festival, there is a late registration option available here (until Thursday).
Best wishes,
Aricca; 603-715-7233; bkl.one.day@fordsayre.org

Join us for some fun there tomorrow. It might be our last day on snow! We know it will take longer for our Norwich/Hanover skiers, so note the timing!

We will celebrate this wild and wacky season, our coaches, skiers, families and support staff with our annual Ford Sayre Nordic Banquet on Monday night, March 14, from 5-7pm at the Black Recreation Center. THERE IS NO SCHOOL that day in the Dresden school district so your kids can spend the day helping to make the food you bring to the banquet! Perfect!
