Parent Info - AMP (Sun) PDF Print E-mail

Dear Ford Sayre AMP Parent(s) - Sunday:

Welcome to another season of Ford Sayre skiing & snowboarding!  This letter should provide you with all the pertinent information regarding the upcoming season, but if there are questions feel free to e-mail me (John Connolly) at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

CLASS DATES AND TIMES: All classes are held on Sunday afternoons between 1-3 PM at the Dartmouth Skiway, Lyme, NH.  The dates for 2012 are as follows:

  • January 15, 22, 29
  • February 5, 12, 26         **There is no class on Feb. 19th due to Winter Break
  • March  4, 11 (possibly a combined session with AMP - Wednesday)

CLOTHING Helmets are mandatory for all and snowboard leashes as well for boarders.  Please dress your child very warmly.  A cold child cannot enjoy skiing and may suffer frostbite.  Children should wear DRY socks, DRY warm waterproof gloves or mittens (not wool ones), neck warmers, goggles, ski parkas and ski pants.  We also encourage a spare pair of hand-warmer/mini-heater packs for your child’s pocket, just in case.

CLASS ASSIGNMENTS: Your child will be assigned to a specific group and his/her instructor will contact you by telephone between January 8th and 10th with specific information about the class level (A-E) and number, along with how and where to find them on opening day.  The meeting places are identified by signs indicating each level and number designation as well.  If you know your child will not attend a class, please notify your child’s instructor.

  • We suggest that you write your child’s class assignment on a piece of paper and place it in his or her jacket pocket so that he or she can refer to it.
  • The Skiway is again issuing Ford Sayre program passes in the form of helmet stickers.  Each child will be required to wear this pass during class.  Instructors will distribute these on the first day of class.
  • Please have your child at his or her meeting place, skis on and ready to go by 12:50.  Classes will depart their respective base locations at 1:00pm sharp.  Any late arrivals must wait at the base with the assigned level Area Captain to join their class.  Early arrivals MAY NOT take a “quick run” before class.   Our insurance coverage does not allow for unsupervised skiers.
  • Please meet your child promptly at dismissal time at the designated location.  Children K-2 will not be allowed to go to the Lodge unescorted, so their parents must pick them up.

PLACEMENT: We assess level assignments (A – E) on skills and not the terrain (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced slopes) or speed a skier can handle.  Any questions regarding placement may be addressed with your child’s instructor.  Every effort is made to set class assignments within the first two weeks and we rely on accurate information provided by parents to do so, in the case of new students to our program.

DISCIPLINE: Each instructor will review the ground rules with his or her class.  Rules are few and simple, necessary to ensure time is well spent, and aimed at preventing disruptive and dangerous behavior.  If a skier disregards a warning, he or she will be left with an Area Captain at the base to wait out the next run.  If the negative behavior persists, a Director will talk with the parents and in rare circumstances may request that the child be removed from the program.

GEAR: Make sure that your child’s equipment (skis, boots and helmet) fit comfortably, and have been adjusted by a certified ski shop.  Have the child try on and remove the equipment several times to become familiar with it.  Label your child’s skis, poles, and boots to avoid mix-ups.  Please note that we are not permitted to make any adjustments to equipment.  The Dartmouth Skiway offers equipment rental packages for our weekly lessons or for the entire season.  Additionally, the Golf & Ski Warehouse offers participants various discounts on products and services.

PARKING: Parking is limited, especially on race days.  Please follow the directions of the parking attendants for drop off and allow adequate time for parking if you are also a volunteer

CANCELLATION POLICY: Ford Sayre rarely cancels classes.  When necessary, due to severe chill factors or markedly hazardous driving conditions, we will try to make the decision by 8:00 PM the night before.  If we cancel, we will send an email and our instructors will make every effort to contact each of their students.   You may also check the home page of this web site.  Canceled  sessions will not be rescheduled due to numerous logistical issues with instructors, the Skiway and Mother Nature.

LODGE EXPECTATIONS:: If your child will be in the lodge dressing or snacking before or after class, please remind him or her to treat the lodge with respect. Ford Sayre skiers & riders are expected to throw away their own drink cups, wrappers, hand-warmer trash, etc.

We are looking forward to a snowy winter and a very successful ski & riding season!

Sincerely,

John Connolly
